First call for proposals:
Energy and climate transitions for Viable Cities
The call Energy and climate transitions for viable cities welcomes project proposals that view the city from a holistic perspective and use digitalization and citizen engagement to speed the transition to a resource-efficient and fossil-free society. We seek ground-breaking projects that make a difference and involve new and exciting constellations of stakeholders.
Who is the call aimed at?
The call for proposal is aimed at the business sector, research institutes, academia, public stakeholders, non-profit organisations, trade associations and individual companies. At least three organisations should be behind each application. It could for example involve an interdisciplinary partnership between a non-profit association, a city and a commercial company.
The Viable Cities Strategic Innovation Programme is part of a joint initiative by Vinnova (the Swedish Agency for Innovation Systems), the Swedish Energy Agency and the Swedish Research Council Formas. Viable Cities has at its disposal around SEK 42 million for this call.
The call for proposal is jointly issued by Vinnova, the Swedish Energy Agency and the Swedish Research Council Formas. Applications will be submitted to the Swedish Energy Agency, which will decide which projects will be approved. Application in Swedish.
Focus areas and themes
The call for proposal is aimed at project applications at the intersection between the focus areas and themes for Viable Cities. Projects must relate to at least two of the following four focus areas:
- Lifestyle and consumption
- Planning the built environment
- Mobility and accessibility
- Integrated infrastructure
and at least one of the five theme areas:
- Testbeds and living labs
- Innovation and entrepreneurship
- Financing and business models
- Intelligence, cybersecurity and ethics
The call for proposal offers the opportunity to seek financing for four types of project. One of the following should be chosen:
- Prestudies, grant amount SEK 200,000–500,000
- Research projects, grant amount SEK 2,000,000–4,500,000
- Innovation projects, SEK 500,000–5,000,000
- Demonstration projects, SEK 500,000–5,000,000
Projects that are approved should start between 01/06/2018 and 30/09/2018.
