The project for a climate neutral Umeå 2030 is based on a consumption perspective on the city’s climate impact, including both emissions within and outside of Umeå’s geographical limit. Efforts are concentrated to four hotspots in order to reduce the household’s climate impact: 1. Traveling (flying as well as car use), 2. Food (meat consumption, milk products and food waste), 3. Housing energy, and 4. Clothes and furniture. The work also involves the development of two completely new districts, Tomtebodastrand and Norra Ön, both of whom have ambitions of becoming international sustainability role models.
